smooth forever

From brows to Brazilians and everything in between!  Let the Gentle Touch “waxperts” get you smooth and silky fast!

Gentle Touch uses a selection of premium waxes that are extremely gentle on the skin.  For very sensitive areas such like Brazilian, face and underarms we use a fabulous wax that doesn’t stick to your skin and that means MUCH more comfortable waxing for you!

Specializing in Brazilian waxing!

Before you wax:

  • Hair must be ¼ of an inch long. That’s at least 3 to 4 weeks of growth. There may be some individual hair that grows a quarter inch in one week but you need an overall average so that’s why the 3 to 4 weeks is much more important than what the length of the hair actually looks like.
  • No sun tanning 24 hours before your waxing appointment.
  • It’s perfectly acceptable to wax during your period
  • Waxing can NOT be done over areas where you are currently applying prescription strength AHAs/BHAs, Rentin-A/Renitol creams and Glycolic Acid.
  • Waxing does NOT make your hair grow in thicker or more coarse.. Your genetics and hormones control your hair growth.
  • Waxing the bikini can produce a hive-like appearance. This can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours.
  • Individuals currently taking Accutane are NOT suitable clients for waxing on any part of the body. They must wait six months after treatment is complete.
  • After your appointment Gentle Touch will give you all the information you need to look after your freshly waxed skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Laser Hair Removal?
Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, tweezing, and waxing, provide only temporary relief. Electrolysis, although it can result in permanent reduction of hair growth, often requires years of ongoing and frequently painful treatments. Allergic reactions and ingrown hairs are also common side effects of these hair removal methods. The Coherent Lightsheer Diode Laser™ will safely remove unwanted facial and body hair by selectively targeting the pigment inside the hair shaft. The laser heats the pigment of the hair to destroy the follicle without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. The tip of the laser will also target multiple hairs at once, unlike electrolysis or tweezing which can only remove one hair at a time.
Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
Yes. Clinical trials have shown that hair follicles successfully destroyed in the active phase cannot re-grow because the stem cells of the hair are no longer there to produce further growth. However, this is not a guarantee of being hair-free for life. Hormonal changes, shock or extreme stress could possibly stimulate previously unproductive follicles to produce completely new growth. This is not to be confused with re-growth of the previously destroyed follicles.
What can I expect during a treatment?

Your expert technician will apply a cool gel to your skin and you will be given a pair of dark glasses to protect your eyes from the light. She will then gently apply the smooth tip of the laser handpiece to the treatment area, quickly and evenly applying pulses of light to the unwanted hair. No painful waxing is necessary beforehand, and there is no need to grow out the hair first. Anesthesia is not required, and most individuals experience no more than a slight stinging sensation as the laser pulses are applied.

Laser hair removal is non-invasive, and safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. The treatment time will depend upon the size of the area being treated. Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in fewer than 30 minutes, while legs and larger areas will require more time. Following your treatment, your technician will apply a cool compress of witch hazel to help reduce any redness or swelling. Any redness or swelling is temporary, and will diminish over the next few days.

Will laser hair removal work for me?

The best candidates for laser hair removal are fair skinned with darker hair. The best results have been achieved on darker, coarse hair, but other factors may influence the treatment process and are best evaluated during your free consultation. At your consultation, the technician may also try a small “test patch” on your skin to help determine whether you will achieve the results you want.

Unfortunately, not everyone is an excellent candidate for laser hair removal. Generally speaking, the best candidates are men and women with black or brown hair. Because the laser targets the pigment in the hair shaft, white, gray and blonde hair (those with less pigment) are less likely to absorb the laser energy. Also, darker skin types pose a risk of the laser energy being absorbed by the skin and not the hair follicle. However, this does not necessarily mean that laser hair removal will not be effective in these situations. As with any treatment, a consultation will help determine the best course of action for your hair colour and skin type.

How many treatments will I need?

Hair grows in cycles. The laser is only effective on hair in its active growing phase. At any one time, there will only be certain hairs in that growing phase. This means that consistent treatments are absolutely necessary for the best possible results.

The number of treatments required depends upon your skin, hair coloring, coarseness of the hair, and density per treatment area. Everyone requires at least two to three treatments since the process is only effective on hair follicles during their active growing phase. Additional treatments will be necessary to treat other follicles when they re-enter the growth phase and produce new growth.

With each treatment, you will see a reduction in the amount of re-growth. Clients typically require between three and five treatments, and most clients find that they no longer need to shave between appointments.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Clients who have had electrolysis prior to laser treatment agree that laser treatment is much less painful than electrolysis. For some areas, our clients compare the feeling to a light snap of an elastic band against the skin. For other areas, they say that it is hardly noticeable. If you are concerned about discomfort, a topical anaesthetic cream (EMLA) can be applied to the treatment area one hour before your appointment.

What will I look like after my treatment?

Clients typically experience slight redness and swelling immediately after treatment. The intensity of these symptoms varies from person to person and dissipates over a 24 to 48 hour period. At the time of treatment, some of the hairs will be removed and, within five to seven days, you may notice the appearance of stubble. This stubble is actually the treated hair being expelled by the follicle. This hair will continue to fall out gradually over the next one to three weeks.

Should I do anything to prepare for my treatment?

For one month prior to your appointment, do not wax or tweeze the hairs that are to be treated. You should also avoid direct sun exposure and tanning both before and after your treatment.

Hair should be visible for your consultation, but should be shaved prior to the treatment itself (on the day of treatment). Finally, the treatment area should be clean and free of all skin care products.

Are there any instructions that I should follow after my treatment?

Sun exposure and tanning should be avoided following any laser treatment. This can be accomplished by applying a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. The treated areas should also be handled gently, avoiding the use of AHA cleansers or topical acne preparations. If necessary, a topical antibiotic such as Polysporin (an over the counter topical antibiotic) can be applied. Your technician will provide you with complete aftercare instructions at the time of your treatment.

What are the contra-indicators for laser hair removal?
Contra-indicators are factors that could adversely affect your suitability for laser hair removal. They include:

  • Diabetes
  • Recently tanned skin
  • White, gray or blonde hair
  • Chemotherapy/radiation treatment
  • Certain prescription medications
  • Pregnant or considering pregnancy
  • Chronic skin conditions such as eczema or vitiligo
  • Use of Accutane within the past six months

If any of these circumstances apply to you, laser hair removal may not be a suitable treatment option. Your technician will complete a confidential medical history chart with you on the day of your consultation to address any contra-indicators or other concerns you may have.

How do I get started?
We encourage you to call for your FREE consultation or to book a consultation and treatment time together. A consultation is required before any treatment to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for laser hair removal and to discuss the treatment process. At the consultation, your technician will also answer any questions that you may have.
